Current save paths
SteamDB’s public cloud configuration identifies the Hovgaard Games/Big Ambitions/SaveGames folder and platform overrides. The practical locations are:
- Windows:
%USERPROFILE%/AppData/LocalLow/Hovgaard Games/Big Ambitions/SaveGames - Linux native-style override:
~/.config/unity3d/Hovgaard Games/Big Ambitions/SaveGames - macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/com.Hovgaard-Games.Big-Ambitions/SaveGames
For Proton, PCGamingWiki also points to the Steam compatibility prefix for app 1331550. The active location can depend on the library in which Steam installed the game.
Make a safe manual backup
- Save normally and close Big Ambitions.
- Wait for any Steam Cloud synchronization to finish.
- Copy the complete
SaveGamesdirectory to a dated folder outside the live path. - Keep more than one generation before updating the game or changing mods.
- Restore only while the game is closed, and retain the current folder until the restored save opens correctly.
Steam Cloud is useful synchronization, but it can also synchronize an unwanted change. An offline dated copy gives you a separate recovery point.
Before changing versions or mods
Back up first, then record the game build and enabled Workshop items. A save from a newer content or blueprint format may not behave correctly in an older build. Do not overwrite the only copy while diagnosing compatibility.
