Mods and Blueprints are different Workshop items
The official Workshop page separates Mods from Blueprints. It says mods can be enabled from the main menu, while building layouts are installed in-game through interior installation firms. Subscribing downloads an item through Steam; the remaining activation step depends on its type.
A cautious installation order
- Confirm the Workshop item states compatibility with Big Ambitions 1.0 or the current build.
- Close the game and make a dated save backup.
- Subscribe to one new item at a time and allow Steam to finish downloading.
- Enable a mod from the main menu, or locate a blueprint through the appropriate installation flow.
- Load a disposable or backed-up save first and check the mod author’s dependencies.
Adding one item at a time makes a conflict easier to identify. A popularity count or recent comment is not a guarantee that an item is safe for every save.
Blueprint compatibility warning
The official EA 0.11 announcement says opening the Blueprints panel updates blueprints for the newer format and that updated blueprints cannot be opened in earlier game versions. That warning matters if you switch branches or preserve an older installation. Keep an original copy before conversion.
Troubleshooting
If a save stops loading after a Workshop change, record the enabled set, disable the newest item, verify files through Steam, and test a backup without overwriting it. Follow the mod author’s own removal instructions when an item stores data inside a save.
Version note
Workshop availability and activation paths were checked September 2, 2026. Individual mods are community software and can update independently, so this article is mixed rather than a blanket compatibility claim.
