How Saving and Resume Work in IRON NEST

Learn how saving and resume work in IRON NEST after Patch 6, including mission-exit checkpoints, continuation, Steam Cloud, and safer update troubleshooting.

Patch 6 added mission continuation

Patch 6, version 1.0 (1663), added saving when the player exits a mission and the ability to continue that mission from the save. The official wording is narrower than “save anywhere,” so this guide does not promise arbitrary manual save slots or instant checkpoints at every station.

Use the mission-exit flow, wait for the menu transition, and choose the available continuation option when returning.

What Steam Cloud changes

The Steam store lists Steam Cloud support. Cloud synchronization can move supported files between systems, but it does not change when the game itself records a mission checkpoint. Allow synchronization to complete before launching on another device.

If the expected continuation is missing:

  1. confirm the installed build is 1663 or later;
  2. verify that the prior session exited through the supported mission flow;
  3. check whether Steam reports a cloud conflict;
  4. preserve the current data before verifying files or changing branches;
  5. consult the latest patch notes for a newly reported regression.

Earlier save problems

Launch patches included save-corruption and mission-entry fixes before the Save & Resume feature arrived. Old reports may describe those earlier builds. Always record the current version when reporting a failure.

Version note

This page reflects the Patch 6 behavior published August 22 and checked September 2, 2026. It makes no claim about undocumented save-file paths or internal checkpoint frequency.
