IRON NEST Calibration and Missed Shots Troubleshooting

Use this IRON NEST calibration and missed shots troubleshooting guide to recheck map origin, target plot, range, bearing, charges, elevation, and gun selection.

Do not correct elevation first

A miss can begin at the target plot, the firing-line origin, a stale target card, a charge mismatch, imprecise bearing or elevation, or the wrong gun. Randomly adding angle may hide the real error and make the next shot harder to diagnose.

Reconstruct the chain in the same order the data moves through the machine.

Seven checks

  1. Confirm the Nest marker reflects the current position after any move.
  2. Confirm the target is at the correct intersection of the supplied observations.
  3. Start the final measurement from the precise origin point on the Nest model.
  4. Delete or separate old notes, then record a fresh range and bearing.
  5. Confirm the calculator charge count equals the physical loaded count.
  6. Confirm the printed elevation and measured bearing are set on the intended barrel.
  7. Confirm that same left or right gun is armed before pulling the firing control.

When actual-position calibration matters

Community guidance notes that the Nest can occupy a point within a reported grid rather than always sitting at its center. In situations where the game supplies enough observed impact information, an initial shot and crater can help refine that origin. This is scenario-dependent community technique, not a requirement to fire an unaimed calibration round in every mission.

Always consider friendly positions and the chosen shell’s effect area before using an observed impact to adjust the plot.

Version note

Troubleshooting steps were synthesized from current community guides and discussions reviewed September 2, 2026. Because objectives and information uncertainty vary, the article is marked mixed for version 1.0 (1663).
