How the 49-entry collection works
Current guide coverage documents 49 creature entries in How to Fish. The total includes ordinary catches, optional mini-bosses, and required story bosses. A catch counts toward the encyclopedia after it is found and defeated; use the Tab menu as the authority for what your save still lacks.
Regular fish come from the equipped rod-and-lure pool. A later island unlocks stronger lures, but current references indicate that the lure is usually more important than the physical island for ordinary catches. Bosses are different: they also require the correct encounter location or quest state.
Regular lure progression
Work from cheap pools toward late-game pools instead of trying to farm a rare variant immediately:
- The early Crab Fishing Rod and Fishing Rod use Free and Hot Dog bait for the first coastal creatures.
- Standard and Professional Lures expand the ordinary fish roster as the island route advances.
- The Scientific Lure becomes available at Volcano and covers late catches such as Blobfish, Oarfish, Anglerfish, Stonefish, and Superdwarf Fish in the current guide set.
Prices and exact pools can change with patches, so pair this summary with the in-game encyclopedia and shop labels.
Purchasable Boss Lures
The current collection guide maps the optional mini-boss pools as follows:
| Lure | Current documented catches | Story area |
|---|---|---|
| Beginner Boss Lure | Sunfish, The Old Pike | Forest |
| Standard Boss Lure | Blue Shark | Desert |
| Professional Boss Lure | Tuna | Rocks |
| Scientific Boss Lure | Goblin Shark | Volcano |
Read the full item name before buying. The ordinary lure and Boss Lure at the same tier serve different pools.
Story bait chain
Main bosses use quest objects rather than the general Boss Lures:
- Spider Crab — Empty Beer Can
- Giant Piranha — Modified Leech
- Pufferfish — Carrot
- Albatross — defeated Tuna placed on land
- Bowhead Whale — Fish Bucket
- Mutated Bowhead Whale — defeated Bowhead Whale thrown into the crater
Drip variants
Every collection target also has a rare Drip form. Use the same lure or story trigger as the normal version; there is no separate Drip Lure in current coverage. The game does not publish a dependable spawn percentage, so this Wiki does not invent one.
Patch 1.0.5 fixed the achievement bug that previously required an additional Drip after the collection appeared complete. The collection structure and lure mappings were checked on September 2, 2026.
