Current version
The latest official How to Fish update found on September 2, 2026 is Patch 1.0.10, published August 27 in the Steam feed. Treat all live counts, balance advice, and save behavior on this Wiki as versioned information rather than permanent rules.
Patch 1.0.10
The developer described 1.0.10 as the biggest patch yet. Its player-facing changes include:
- weapons and tools lose their cooked state when dipped in water;
- up to 64 items dropped in the world now persist between sessions;
- that save pool prioritizes weapons, tools, quest items, and creatures;
- Anglerfish health was reduced slightly;
- the connection timeout was increased;
- explosion velocity was capped so items are less likely to fly out of reach;
- fixes targeted roulette, Radar markers, item pickup races, and objects loading far away or through the level.
The 64-item limit is not unlimited storage. Keep active quest objects in a small, deliberate pile and save after a hand-in.
Patch 1.0.9
Version 1.0.9 added difficulty selection in both the main menu and in-game settings:
- Easy: creatures have 25% less health and deal 50% less damage.
- Hard: creatures have 25% more health and deal 25% more damage.
The patch also added a Steam connection diagnostic in the main menu and targeted save-file corruption. A red Steam relay result signals a connection problem before lobby troubleshooting moves into the world.
Patches 1.0.8 and 1.0.6
Patch 1.0.8 corrected PlayStation controller glyphs and connected the fire sizzling sound to the effects-volume control.
Patch 1.0.6 stopped writing a save when the application crashes. Saves are written when the player chooses Save, Main Menu, or Quit, while the one-minute autosave remains. Use a menu save after an expensive purchase or boss trophy delivery.
Patch 1.0.5
The first larger quality-of-life update added inverted look-axis options, invite-only private lobbies, and an in-game session-type setting that requires a restart. It also lowered the minimum locked frame rate from 50 to 30.
Two progression changes matter for old guides: traveling directly to locked islands was fixed, and Fishipedia now unlocks on the last required Drip instead of requiring one extra catch.
Patch 1.0.4
Patch 1.0.4 expanded official lobby support to eight players, nerfed Pufferfish and Whale, and made the intended path toward the final island easier to see. It also targeted black-screen joining, gray-screen startup, stuck boss timers, and the final-boss bare-hands achievement.
The Steam product description still says 1–4 players, but the later 1.0.4 announcement is the current lobby-cap source.
What remains patch-sensitive
Exact shop prices, creature health, the fastest Bean route, large-lobby reliability, and ground-item behavior can change. This page summarizes official notes and labels community-reported known issues separately; it does not treat a forum report as a shipped fix.
