Unlock the Desert Grill
Find the Grillmaster beside the unlit Grill on the Desert island. His request is a Blue Shark. Buy the Standard Boss Lure rather than the cheaper ordinary Standard Lure; the similar names lead to different catch pools.
Current guides record the Boss Lure at $280 for version 1.0.10, but confirm the shop price in your own build. Equip it, cast from the Desert shoreline, and prepare for the Blue Shark encounter before reeling the lure in.
Move sideways when the shark begins a spinning or direct approach and keep ranged pressure without standing in its path. Return the defeated Blue Shark to the Grillmaster. The hand-in starts the Grill and unlocks the related achievement.
Cook to the value cap
Hold or place a sellable creature over the flame. Use Inspect—F by default on keyboard in current guide coverage—to watch its cooking multiplier rise. Remove the item as soon as it reaches 1.5x.
You do not need to flip the catch or complete a separate minigame. Timing is the mechanic.
Cooking has two practical uses:
- a properly cooked item sells for more;
- cooked fish restores useful health and hunger during later boss fights.
Prepare a small healing stack before casting the Carrot for the Pufferfish instead of selling the entire batch.
Burning and achievement cleanup
Leaving an ordinary catch on the Grill after the peak eventually turns it black and removes most of its sale value. Eating one burnt creature is useful once for the Yummy in my tummy achievement; use a cheap catch for that experiment.
Do not cook an active boss trophy, special bait, or endangered creature needed by the Tourist. Keep story objects on a separate patch of ground or in a designated co-op player’s inventory.
Volcano lava and dirty tools
Current guides report that Volcano lava cooks items without the same burn limit. Official Patch 1.0.10 also added a way to clean cooked weapons and tools by dipping them in water. Both details are version-sensitive and were checked on September 2, 2026.
