Dungeon Settlers Beginner Guide: Your First Priorities

Dungeon Settlers beginner guide covers the settlement-to-dungeon loop, safe first objectives, party preparation, and advice that survives Early Access changes.

Start with one manageable objective

Your first success should be a functioning preparation-and-return routine, not the largest possible settlement. Follow the tutorial in your installed build, learn how to select a character and inspect an item, and identify the control that pauses combat before committing to a difficult encounter.

The official premise links colony management to dungeon exploration. This guide recommends choosing one immediate outcome for each trip: bring back something needed for your next project, learn an unfamiliar enemy, or test equipment you already own. A narrow goal makes it easier to recognize when the expedition has achieved enough. Current game description.

A first-session checklist

  • Check that people at home can eat and rest before expanding.
  • Inspect each expedition member individually; a complete-looking party can still contain an unequipped recruit.
  • Practice stopping combat, reading the situation, and issuing a deliberate order.
  • After returning, spend resources on the problem that actually limited the trip.

Do not follow the old tutorial blindly

Scopique’s August preview describes a demo tutorial beginning underground and reaching the surface through a blue portal. That is useful historical context, not a verified step-by-step route for version 0.4.12. Use the current tutorial’s wording if menus or objectives differ. We have not gameplay-tested this launch build; the checklist is editorial advice, not a speedrun route.
