Start from the result you need
Write the problem in plain language before selecting a technology: “I cannot make the equipment I need” is more useful than “I need more research.” Then work backward through the current interface. Does the desired unlock require another discovery, a building, or an ingredient you cannot yet obtain?
Research unlocks buildings and equipment in the official description. The right choice therefore depends on what you can put to work, not simply which branch sounds strongest.
Compare the complete cost
Our recommended test has three parts:
- Identify the concrete improvement the unlock would provide.
- Confirm you can satisfy the follow-up production requirements.
- Compare that improvement with the problem delaying your next expedition.
If the colony cannot support its current population, postpone a speculative combat specialization. If home is stable but your party cannot handle its next objective, examine the equipment or preparation dependency behind that failure.
Why there is no fixed “best first tech” here
The reviewed community research framework is explicitly based on pre-release information. We have not verified its named branches, costs or prerequisites against the installed Early Access build. Its useful contribution is a decision method, not a current research tree.
Do not spend resources merely because an old screenshot marks one node as mandatory. Read the live unlock description, and make one change you can evaluate before committing to a long chain.
