Think in skill paths, not a fixed class list
The official description gives sword, mace, bow and fire magic as examples of skill trees that can work together. It does not provide a complete current class roster or establish which combination is strongest. Official character overview.
Start by describing each character’s intended contribution. Who can stay safe close to an enemy? Who can reach a threat without following the same approach? What useful action can the party take when straightforward damage is not enough? These are planning questions, not requirements to force every recruit into a traditional tank, healer or damage slot.
Compare a candidate with the existing party
Our recommendation is to inspect available abilities, usable equipment and relevant traits together. An attractive ability is not immediately useful if your settlement cannot support the equipment or preparation it needs.
Give a new member a simple job you can observe in a manageable encounter. If two characters continually compete for the same position, change their approach before assuming that another level will solve the problem.

The pre-release builds guide offers role-based reasoning, but its exact attributes and sub-skill details are not launch-build tests. We are not importing its numerical assumptions or publishing a best-in-slot ranking.
Read the current skill descriptions before spending points. This page does not establish a free respec method, guaranteed race combination, or mandatory four-character composition.
