Think in two food budgets
A pantry that looks healthy before departure may be insufficient once supplies leave with the expedition. Our recommendation is to consider the colony’s needs and the travel pack separately. Before recruiting or setting out, ask whether the people remaining at home still have a workable food plan.
The store confirms settlement rooms and crop production. A pre-release food guide also emphasizes the pressure additional recruits place on provisioning. Its exact demo-era behavior has not been verified in version 0.4.12, so this page does not supply a universal crop yield or daily ration number.
Diagnose the first weak link
Look at what is happening, not just what you intended to build. Is the shortage food itself, an unfinished prerequisite, or work that nobody is completing? Review the current interface’s requirements before adding more construction orders. Repeating an unavailable recipe will not solve its missing input.
For shelter, start with the resting and room needs shown for your existing population. Expand when you can support another settler, not merely because a candidate is available. This is a planning recommendation, not a fixed building order.
Avoid optimizing too early
Compare production over a normal working period before spending heavily on a larger layout. Keep enough flexibility to correct a mistaken room or workstation arrangement. The official settlement overview describes interconnected systems; a reliable small base provides a better diagnostic starting point than several unfinished upgrades.
