Support answer
Firevolt explicitly confirms that WheelMates supports Steam Deck. The June demo update made the game playable on the handheld, and the August developer Q&A repeated support ahead of release.
That confirmation does not answer every co-op setup question. WheelMates still requires exactly two players, so decide whether the Deck will join an online partner or drive a local shared-screen session with suitable additional controls.
Setup checklist
- Install the newest launch build rather than relying on the retired demo.
- Update SteamOS and allow shader processing to complete before judging first-run stutter.
- Confirm both players’ controller assignments before entering a puzzle.
- For online play, establish external voice chat because the game has no built-in voice channel.
Compatibility boundary
SteamDB showed partial controller support in the app metadata, while the developer described Deck support without publishing a fixed resolution, frame-rate, or battery-life target. This page is therefore mixed: the support statement is official, but performance and input behavior can vary with build, SteamOS, docked state, and paired devices.
