How many Shells are in Mortal Shell II?
The released game has eight playable Shells. Harros returns as the vessel used during the prologue but is not counted among the eight Shells available for the main journey.
The current roster is:
| Shell | Published title | Orientation |
|---|---|---|
| Tiel | The Acolyte | Early mobility and stealth-oriented option |
| Proxima | The Broodseeker | Hook, Lightning, and mitigation tools |
| Eredrim | The Venerable | Durable mid-game option in guide coverage |
| Gragu | The Insatiable | Distinct aggressive Shell route |
| Smert | The Apostate | Time-control identity in current guides |
| Lazlo | The Justiciar | Separate late-route Shell |
| Sariel | The Endless | Encounter-linked unlock |
| Sester Genessa | The Wayward | Unlock method differs from standard corpse routes |
The orientations above are signposts, not a complete tier list. Abilities and upgrade values can change with patches.
How Shells change a build
A Shell supplies innate strengths and unique abilities. Weapons, sidearms, Seals, Tarstones, and upgrade choices then shape how that base identity plays. This means the correct question is not simply “Which Shell has the highest rank?” but “Which Shell supports the decisions I consistently make in combat?”
Which Shell should you find first?
Tiel and Proxima are revealed early in current route coverage. Tiel is commonly recommended for mobile play and an accessible early route, while Proxima offers a different hook-and-mitigation toolkit. Try both before spending heavily on a long-term upgrade direction.
Route accuracy
Shell locations published during the Open Beta may not describe every launch placement. The eight-Shell launch roster is confirmed by official material, while exact routes are guide-derived and should be checked against the current build.
Upgrade advice
Use Beacons or the Marrow Keep progression services to inspect a Shell’s ability tree before committing scarce resources. Prioritize one active ability path and one defensive or utility path that reinforce each other; avoid buying isolated upgrades just because they are immediately available.
